Medicare covers some chiropractic care, but far less than most people expect. Here is what Part B pays for, what it leaves out, and what to know before booking a visit in Oceanside.

One of the most common questions our Oceanside front desk hears from patients over 65 is simple: will Medicare pay for this? The honest answer is that Medicare covers a narrow slice of chiropractic care, and the rest is up to you.
Knowing the rules before your first visit saves surprises later. This guide explains what Original Medicare covers, what it leaves out, and how payment works at our office on Vista Way.

Quick answer
Medicare Part B covers only one chiropractic service: manual adjustment of the spine to correct a subluxation, after your deductible, with you paying 20% of the approved amount. It does not cover exams, X-rays, massage, or other services a chiropractor orders. Pacific Spine & Rehab in Oceanside does not participate with Medicare, so call to discuss payment options first.
Key takeaways
According to Medicare.gov, Part B only covers adjustments of the spine by a chiropractor to correct a subluxation, meaning spinal joints that do not move properly. The adjustment must be done by hand or with a small handheld device called an activator.

After you meet the Part B deductible, you pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for each covered adjustment. What you owe also depends on any other insurance you have and whether the provider accepts Medicare assignment.
| Service | Original Medicare Part B | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spinal adjustment to correct a subluxation | Covered | After the deductible, you pay 20% of the approved amount |
| Exam or consultation by a chiropractor | Not covered | Billed separately from the adjustment |
| X-rays ordered by a chiropractor | Not covered | Medicare does not pay for tests a chiropractor orders |
| Massage therapy | Not covered | See our massage therapy page |
| Rehab and corrective exercise | Not covered from a chiropractor | See our rehab therapy page |
Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans must cover what Original Medicare covers, and some add extra benefits. Network rules, copays, and visit limits vary by plan, so call the number on your card and ask specifically about chiropractic care.
A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy may help with the 20% coinsurance on covered adjustments, but it does not turn non-covered services into covered ones.
Pacific Spine & Rehab does not participate with most health plans, including PPO, HMO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and TRICARE. We accept HSA, FSA, and CareCredit, and self-pay rates are quoted in writing. See our insurance page and pricing page for details.
New patients can start with the $49 New Patient Special, which includes a consultation, exam, and first chiropractic treatment. If you are a Medicare patient, please call our Oceanside office at 2530 Vista Way, Suite P before booking so we can talk through your options. If you were hurt in a car accident, MedPay or treatment on lien may apply instead; see our auto accident page.
If you are not sure how many visits you will need, our article How many chiropractic visits will I need? explains how treatment plans are built. Common reasons older adults visit include lower back pain, neck pain, and spinal stenosis, treated with chiropractic care.
Seek emergency care if you have
New numbness in the groin or inner thighs, trouble controlling your bladder or bowels, worsening leg weakness, or back pain after a fall or with fever. These need prompt medical evaluation, regardless of coverage.
